Zamberlan Product Care
How to Care for Your Zamberlan Footwear
The correct care of your footwear depends on the materials used to manufacture it. The main purpose of any treatment is to nourish the leather and enhance its waterproofing characteristics. How often treatment is needed depends on the condition of the footwear and how frequently it is used.
We recommend lighter, more frequent applications rather than occasional heavy applications. We also recommend treating your footwear before storing it for long periods to help prevent the leather from drying out.
Important: When using products other than Zamberlan® Hydrobloc® treatment, make sure they meet GORE-TEX requirements. Silicone-based or similar treatments must not be used, as they may clog the pores of the membrane, impair breathability and invalidate your GORE-TEX warranty.
Smart Tips to Take Care of Your Footwear
1. Remove the laces
Remove the laces before cleaning your footwear.
2. Wash the footwear
Wash the boots under a cold tap. You can use a mild soap if necessary.
3. Remove the footbeds and dry naturally
Remove the footbeds and let the footwear dry slowly and thoroughly in a ventilated, dry and shady place.
4. Never use direct heat
Very important: Do not try to accelerate the drying process by placing the boots close to a heating source such as a fire, radiator, electrical stove or boiler. This can cause the leather to crack or shrink, create ridging or stiffness in the upper, and may impair the adhesion of the sole, toe box or protective rand.
The warranty will become invalid if the footwear is exposed to this kind of heat source. Allow footwear to dry in a fresh, well-ventilated room and start drying it promptly, as excessive internal humidity, including sweat, may encourage mould and bacteria.
5A. Full Grain Leather Uppers
Apply Zamberlan® Hydrobloc® Conditioning Cream to the cleaned and dried upper using a soft brush to work the cream into the leather. Let the shoes rest for a few hours, then polish them.
5B. Nubuck, Suede & Fabric Uppers
For nubuck leather, suede, nubuck leather/fabric and suede/fabric, apply Zamberlan® Hydrobloc® Conditioning Spray. Shake well, then spray two separate coats onto the cleaned and dried upper, including fabric sections if present. Spray from approximately 20 cm away and allow 5 minutes between coats so the conditioner can soak in. Leave to dry for a few hours before using the footwear again.
6. Footwear with Leather Linings
Clean leather linings with a warm, damp cloth and allow them to dry thoroughly before applying a thin coat of Hydrobloc® Proofing Cream or Hydrobloc® Conditioning Spray. This helps keep the leather lining soft and supple. Leave to dry for a few hours before using the footwear again.
Caring for the Other Parts of the Shoe
Synthetic Linings
No special care is required. After use, clean with a warm, damp cloth and allow to dry.
Leather Linings
Leather linings offer superb comfort but should be treated at regular intervals, as the acidity of perspiration may damage or alter them. Clean the leather linings with a warm, damp cloth, allow them to dry thoroughly, then apply a thin coat of Hydrobloc® Proofing Cream or Hydrobloc® Conditioning Spray to nourish the leather and keep it soft and supple.
Outsoles
Inspect outsoles regularly. Remove any stones lodged in the outsole before your next use, as they may cause damage. Check outsole depth from time to time, as a significantly worn outsole may compromise safety. Most Zamberlan® boots can be resoled by specialist cobblers.
Products that can be resoled are identified by the appropriate resoleable logo.
Laces
Laces normally offer a fairly long service life but may deteriorate and break over time, so they should be inspected regularly. Laces not produced by Zamberlan may be used as long as they meet GORE-TEX requirements to guarantee waterproofness. Carrying a spare set is a sensible precaution, especially when walking in remote areas.
Footbeds
The anatomical footbeds supplied with your footwear should be cleaned regularly and replaced with genuine Zamberlan® footbeds every six months, or at least once a year.
