OSPREY FITTING & LEARNING

Find Your Perfect Pack Fit

Osprey’s custom-fit heritage goes back to 1974. A correctly fitted backpack helps maximise comfort, efficiency and stability—whether you’re heading into the mountains, travelling, commuting or carrying gear every day.

01

Size & Fit

Custom-fit backpacks are Osprey’s legacy. Their expertise in designing backpacks to fit different shapes, sizes and body types dates back to 1974, when Osprey was founded on designing custom packs for mountaineers headed to the Sierra.

A properly fitting pack helps maximise efficiency, comfort and safety both on and off the trail.

02

Sizing Overview

Fit should not be compromised for other considerations. Body shape and sizing varies from customer to customer, and not every customer will fit every pack. Adjustable packs allow you to fine-tune the fit for optimal carry performance.

Osprey torso length fitting illustration — **Torso length**Match the pack size to your torso measurement.

Osprey hipbelt sizing illustration — **Hipbelt size**The hipbelt should wrap securely around the iliac crest.

Osprey shoulder strap fitting illustration — **Shoulder straps**Straps should contour comfortably without gaps.

03

Torso Length / Sizing

Many Osprey packs are available in multiple sizes to fit a range of torso lengths. Use the three steps below to determine your torso measurement.

Step 1: find the iliac crest — **Find the iliac crest**Locate the top of your hipbone on the side of your body.

Step 2: find the C7 vertebra — **Find the C7 vertebra**It’s the knobby bone at the base of your neck when you put your head down.

Step 3: measure torso length — **Measure your torso**Measure from the iliac crest up to the C7 vertebra.

How to measure: Start at the iliac crest—the top of your hipbone on the side of your body that acts like a shelf. From this point, measure to the C7 vertebra, the knobby bone at the base of your neck when you put your head down. Then use the torso-length charts below to match the correct pack size.

04

Hipbelt Sizing

Measure around the hips at the iliac crest, not the waist. The padded portion should wrap well around the hips, leaving a gap of 3″ to 6″ between the tips of both hip pads when securely tightened.
